Summer 2013 Interpretive Programs: June, July, August
Fun and informative programs for the entire family

Thursdays
Bentsen Experience Tour – 9:00–11:00a
Discover Bentsen-RGV State Park with a Naturalist as your guide. See the various nature attractions of the park & search for wildlife in one of the few remaining woodlands along the Rio Grande.

Fridays
Fridays on Foot! – 6:30–8:00p
Take a late afternoon nature walk around the park headquarters and beyond with a Naturalist as your guide. This is a great way to learn about nature and see local wildlife in their natural habitats.

Saturdays
Creatures of the Night 8:00–10:00p
Explore Bentsen after dark in search of nocturnal wildlife or scan the skies for planets and constellations. Limit 20 participants. Pre-registration required.

Sundays
Bird Walk 8:30-10:30a
Bentsen is a top destination for birdwatchers. This guided tour is a great way to see south Texas specialty birds such as Altamira Oriole, Green Jay, Chachalaca & Great Kiskadee.

NEW Special Programs! "Beak the Heat"
Beat the afternoon heat this summer and cool off indoors! Join our Park Naturalists for fact-filled presentations followed by kid-friendly crafts that focus on different Birdy topics each month. Pre-registration is required 956-584-9156.

Bird Watching 101:
Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 2-4 pm
Get in on the fastest growing hobby in the nation – Birdwatching! Tips & tools for the beginning birder.

Feathers & Flight – Form & Function:Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 2-4 pm
Explore the mechanics of flight and how different birds use their feathers for display, protection & camouflage.

Wonders of Bird Migration
Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 2-4 pm
The story behind birds that travel thousands of miles each year as part of their life cycle.

Special Family Event: 7th Annual Perseid Party
Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 8:00 pm-12:00 midnight
It's the Perseid Party at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park! This annual event features live animals, nature-themed family activities, stargazing, food vendors & live entertainment during the week of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Admission is only $5! FREE for children 12 and under!

The park is under currently under a county-wide burn ban. No ash producing fires, of any kind, are allowed. Containerized fuel stoves are currently allowed for cooking only.
