"Viva McAllen Streets" targets living a healthy lifestyle with fitness and eating right. McAllen Crime Stoppers, the McAllen Police Department, McPD Cycling Team and the McAllen Transit & Traffic Departments teamed up to host a community event for a safe place to exercise and play.
 
Events:
McAllen Crime Stoppers and the McPd Cycling Team together organized Pedal Against Crime – 60 mile, 40 mile, and 25 mile cycling ride from the beautiful McAllen Convention Center to the rural roads of La Joya. The McAllen Crime Stoppers and La Joya ISD Campus Crime Stoppers will host the Cowboy Q’ing Against Crime Cook-off, sanctioned by the International Barbecue Cookers Association (IBCA) for the best cook off chefs in South Texas, Saturday August 3, 2013 from 9 am to 5 pm at the McAllen Convention Center. Set up for event is Friday, August 2nd at 12 pm (noon). To Register for Cook-off, contact Gilbert Casanova 956-522-2163 or Carlos Garcia 956-279-9472 or Mario Cavazos 956-821-2180.

McAllen Crime Stoppers will host a Run for Justice 10k Costume Run & Walk through some of McAllen’s safe and friendly neighborhoods. You can pre-register for 10k Run at Active.com http://www.active.com/running/mcallen-tx/viva-mcallen-streets-2013

McAllen Crime Stoppers Trail Ride will start and finish at the McAllen Convention Center grounds on the west side. Horse riders will meander up north in and out of traffic on Ware Road via irrigation canals. You can pre-register with Mario Cavazos at mcpdcrimestoppers@gmail.com or 956-821-2180. You must provide your own horse. The trail ride will collect $20 per rider on site.

McAllen Police Department, McAllen Metro/Transit, and Bike McAllen/Traffic Departments with the City of McAllen are committed to ensuring a safe and enjoyable place for cyclists, runners, pedestrians and motorists to coexist within our city through the promotion of cycling safety, fitness, and public awareness of cycling facilities and policies.

Cowboy Breakfast with the Mayor tickets are only $5 per person which can be purchased at McAllen Chamber of Commerce with Blanca Cardenas 956-682-2871 or Mario Cavazos at 956-821-2180. Join us for a Cowboy Breakfast with pan de campo in a cowboy setting. There will be entertainment and Mayor Jim Darling will address the crowd.

Metro Kids Station – Metro McAllen will host kid events Caricatures with Marie Antoinette; ZUMBA with Mary Zuviri; Bike Rack Completion Swag Pack; Play and learn about your after school snack; and Mini bus roadeo
