Brownsville Literacy Center’s 15th Annual Symphony in the Park will be held on Saturday, May 4 at Washington Park. The gate opens at 5 p.m. to “Swing into Literacy,” the theme for this year’s exciting family fun event featuring the Dean Canty Big Band.
Before the orchestra takes the stage, the audience will enjoy performances by youngsters in the B-SMART Orchestra and the UTB/TSC Music Academy. Also taking the stage will be the Taffelmusik Quartet, an ensemble of university students; and the Los Fresnos High School Jazz Band will keep the music alive during intermission with some snappy selections.
Continuing its popularity with parents and children, Symphony will again include Play Day at Symphony under the direction of Dr. Georgianna Duarte and her UTB and TSC early childhood studies students.
The Boogie Woogie auction will be open throughout the evening, giving everyone time to peruse the tempting selections.
The evening’s entertainment lineup is as follows:

6:30 – 7:00 Taffelmusik Quartet
7:00 – 8:00 Dean Canty Big Band
