12/18 - Children's Christmas Program - Edinburg

The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library 2013 Children's Christmas Program will be Dec. 18 at 6pm. Our very special celebrity reader, Octavio Saenz, will be reading "The Night before Christmas" for all to enjoy. There will also be a puppet show and caroling, a free book giveaway and goodie bags! The event is free.

From The Monitor — City officials announced plans for the inaugural McAllen Marathon, which will coincide with the Boys & Girls Club’s first-ever tamale festival.

12/14 - Gingerbread House Making Class - McAllen

IMAS is hosting three sessions of gingerbread house making class on Saturday, December 14th at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. Cost is $8 for IMAS members and $10 for non-members. All supplies included. Register in advance by calling 956-682-0123 or by visiting the IMAS front desk.

The Rio Grande Valley Ballet is sponsoring two performances of The Nutcracker at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 14th and 2:00 p.m. on December 15th at the McAllen Civic Center Auditorium.

12/14 - 63rd annual Longest Lighted Christmas Parade and Bazaar - San Benito

San Benito’s 63rd annual Longest Lighted Christmas Parade and Bazaar is set for 6 p.m. Saturday.
A public bazaar featuring live music, games, food and arts and crafts will run from 4 to 11 p.m. at Heavin Park.

The City of McAllen, McAllen Parks and Recreation and McAllen Chamber of Commerce will host the 31st Annual Candlelight Posada Saturday, December 7th from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Archer Park, 101 N. Edinburg's 2013 Night of Lights will begin Friday night with a South Texas Lyric Opera at 5:15 p.m. and the tree lighting at 6 p.m. The parade and festival are on Saturday, December 7th from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The parade begins on the corner of University Dr. & Sugar Rd. and ends at the Hidalgo County Courthouse Parking lot (Town Square).

12/6-8 - Zoo Nights & Lights - Brownsville

The Gladys Porter Zoo invites visitors to its annual holiday celebration, Zoo Nights & Lights on December 6th, 7th, and 8th from 6 - 9 p.m.

The Junior League of McAllen celebrates 75 years with "Diamonds in December" - this year's Dias Festivos! Hidalgo's Festival of Lights begins December 1st and features concerts and trolley tours every evening at 7:00 p.m. in the month of December.

Festivities begin with a Festival of Lights 5K Fun Run in the Lights on Sunday, December 1st and with an illuminated parade at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 2nd.
