The Weslaco Museum will hold a summer camp for young artists ages 10-17 throughout the months of June and July. Registrations for the camp are open and recommended due to limited space. Classes are set to start on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 and will last five weeks, until July 19. The young artist summer camp will consist of art classes taught by a professional artist who is experienced in the art field. Young artists will explore a variety of different mediums such as acrylic paint, pencil, and charcoal as well as learn new techniques they can implement in their artwork. There are many reasons why the arts are an important factor in the development of children’s full potential. The arts are one of the main ways that humans define who they are, and often are used as a form of self-expression. Classes include one-on-one time with the art instructor, all materials needed for weekly lessons, access to lectures and presentations during class time to supplement the art lessons, and snacks. Children may be registered at the Weslaco Museum; each week costs $50.00 per child, or $210.00 for the entire five weeks. Classes will be held Tuesday through Friday from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. For more information, or to register for the young artist summer camp, please call 968-9142 or email the programs coordinator at programs@weslacomuseum.org. The Weslaco Museum is open at 500 S. Texas Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and college students, $2 for children 5-17 and free to children under 5. Admission is free on first Saturdays of the month, and for special programs. Weslaco Museum Website | |||
