Saturday, October 12th from 5 am to 5 pm, you’re invited toQuinta Mazatlan’s Big Sit International celebration to kick off fall birding migration and programs. Visitors are welcome to join the bird watch with our knowledgeable staff whenever and for however long they want.
Quinta Mazatlan
will have a half day Big Sit, looking from our gardened amphitheater to the wonderful Wooded Meadow. The Big Sit is an international event that focuses on counting bird species from a designated 17 foot circle, with each circle trying to see as many species as possible. You’ll be “sitting” at the same time as thousands of other birders worldwide! Participants will be able to sit and count birds in comfort with knowledgeable birders, all while enjoying the sights and sounds of our local Thorn Forest.
Get acquainted with local birds like Great Kiskadee, Clay-colored Thrush, Plain Chachalaca, as well as migrant birds like warblers, vireos, and orioles. At the end of the day, we will tally the birds and enter them onto the Big Sit website and see how many birds we saw in total!
Binoculars, field guides, drinks, and snacks will be provided for those attending The Big Sit, but participants are welcome to bring their own as desired.
